How we used UV-sensitive material to remind Slovaks that a single application of sunscreen isn't enough

Dr.Max ― UV Flag

Dr. Max is the leader in care, especially as sunny days come and the sun becomes increasingly aggressive. Although it may seem like we know everything there is to know about sun protection, the reality at beaches and swimming pools every summer shows that we still have significant gaps. While most Slovaks know they should use sunscreen, we face a serious awareness problem. Up to 79% of us have no idea that the SPF factor loses its effectiveness during the day, and for true protection, it is essential to reapply it multiple times. We decided to solve this problem creatively and directly in the field. Using a special UV-sensitive material that changes color based on the intensity of solar radiation, we created the Dr. Max Sundetector – a flag that warns of hidden threats in real-time.

The flag's transformation serves as a direct warning. As the sun grows stronger and more aggressive, the Sundetector flag turns a deeper shade of purple. This visual signal, launched at Bratislava’s Zlaté Piesky, serves as a constant and interactive reminder that for skin safety, a single application in the morning is simply not enough.
